Sheep and Goat meat contributes 0.72 million MT. to the total meat production i.e. 4.26 million MT. Since India has largest livestock population with 50 % of buffalo population and 18 % of cattle in the world, there's a heavy need of milk processing industry. Due to inadequate processing India wastes roughly $ 13 billion worth of farm products including dairy items annually. There are 171 meat Processing Units producing 4.5 million tones of meat annually. Immense scope is there to form industrial zones like SEZs with many chilling plants, boilers, milk powder machines, packaging machines.
Canine industry is growing drastically in urban areas. Dog breeders are doing roaring business by sale of pups at premium price.
Equine industry has its own importance in race course, polo, circus etc. Ponies and mules are used as pack animals in hilly areas.
